Free Lunchtime Organ Recital
An hour long programme of organ works with local and West Sussex connections to be given by Gerald Taylor FRCO.
The concert showcases works by five composers with close Horsham associations. The programme starts with music by John Ireland (1879-1962), who retired to Sussex in 1953 when he bought Rock Mill. He died there and is buried in Shipley churchyard. Richard Hall (1903-1982), was a prolific composer, professor of composition and a former Minister at the Unitarian Church in Horsham. The remaining three composers all had connections with Christ’s Hospital; Christopher Tambling (1964-2015) studied organ with Malcolm McKelvey (1926-2005) who was Director of Music at the school, as was C.S. Lang (1891-1971) before him, whose best-known work ‘Tuba Tune’ will end the recital.
All are welcome – No tickets required – Retiring Collection.
