Horsham Writers Circle James Herbert and the Horror from Horsham
James Herbert was Horsham’s Mike Tyson, according to Stephen King: “Herbert was by no means literary, but his work had a raw urgency. His best novels The Rats and The Fog had the effect of Mike Tyson in his championship days. No finesse, all crude power. These books were best sellers because many readers (including me) were too horrified to put them down.” (New York Times March 2013).
Information about his life and writing, as well as copies of his books and those of other horror genre authors, will be available in Horsham and District’s libraries – Horsham, Billingshurst, Enfield, Pulborough, Southwater, Steyning and Storrington. We’ll have information on our website, too (see below).
So find out more about James Herbert OBE, who gave the world horror from Horsham and who lived and wrote in Woodmancote. Oh yes, and read some of his books, if you dare!
Horsham Writers Circle is a lively and friendly group of enthusiastic writers. We meet monthly to develop our writing skills and support members’ writing projects. Find out more on our website horshamwriters.co.uk
