Horsham District Year of Culture News Update

If you’ve been watching our live videos on Facebook then you’ll know there has been plenty happening in the last few months before the Horsham District Year of Culture 2019 begins. If you haven’t seen the updates then this is a chance to catch up with just a few of the things we have been working on recently!

The HDYOC19 Programme

There are over 140 events already uploaded to the Year of Culture website. These are taking place throughout the Horsham District and there is a huge variety. From wheelbarrow races to comedy nights to film competitions we truly believe there is something for everyone.

We have been working on the programme for the January to June element of the Year of Culture. This includes information on the Hidden Gems, as nominated by you, for the first six months of the year, the sponsored projects and many fringe projects. The programme will be available very shortly from outlets across the District (we’ve been out delivering this week!) but if you’re a Friend of the Year of Culture, yours will be delivered straight through your letterbox!

The HDYOC19 Calendar

You nominated some fantastic places, buildings and objects as Hidden Gems for the Year of Culture 2019. It was an incredibly hard decision to pick just twelve but we did eventually get there! These wonderful places are not only featured in the Year of Culture Programmes, they also have their very own beautiful calendar. The calendar is out now and makes a fantastic gift for Christmas, not only for the stunning images inside but also the amazing featured offers. Each purchase of the calendar raises £1 for local vulnerable people of Horsham District.

The HDYOC19 Event & Social Media Support

We’ve been busy working with teams, charities, community groups and individuals who need help and support with their projects. Whether this is helping with publicity, assisting with finding venues or advising on grants, we’ve been very happy to help. Some of our organisers have been asking for support with using social media for their events. We ran a social media workshop earlier in the year and have another planned for Friday 16th November. If you would like details on this, please get in touch.

The HDYOC19 Launch

The start of the Year of Culture 2019 is fast approaching and we are in the throes of organising the launch event. This will take place early in January and will be accessible for all. If you saw our latest live video on Facebook you will have seen Nick talking about ‘Ray Beamer’ and lasers! The The event will be held in Horsham Park and we will be giving you more details as soon as they are available – watch this space!

HDYOC19 Friends

Would you like to have afternoon tea at South Lodge Hotel for two, wine tasting for four at Mannings Heath Golf Club, annual membership to Leonardslee Lakes and Gardens  or family entry to Amberley Museum? You could be in with a chance of having any of these for free if you become a Friend of the Horsham District Year of Culture 2019.
