The Hidden Gems of Horsham District

We need your help! To celebrate the Horsham District Year of Culture we’re looking for the 12 ‘Hidden Gems’ in the Horsham District. Recently, travel writers in The Guardian listed Leechpool and Owlbeech Woods as hidden gem destinations but we want to know where you, the residents of Horsham District would choose as your Hidden Gem.

What’s a Hidden Gem?

We want to know abut the places and things in Horsham District that are important to you. The area spans 205 square miles so there’s plenty to choose from! Perhaps you have a particular view that you consider stunning, a cafe which is a delight to escape to, an historic (or new!) building which you love or a country walk that you really enjoy. Whatever you feel should be celebrated can be nominated providing it’s located within Horsham District.

How do I nominate a Hidden Gem?

The West Sussex County Times newspaper is printing nomination forms in the paper, so pick up a copy and use this form to vote. You can also email your nomination to [email protected] and mark the message HIDDEN GEM. Don’t forget to outline why your choice is a hidden gem! Alternatively, you can post your nomination in our special Horsham District Year of Culture 2019 Facebook group.

We’d love to see photos of your nominations so do post them on social media, if you use the hashtags #HDYOC19 and #HiddenGems on Twitter and Instagram we might use them on our social media accounts to celebrate the wonderful places we have in the area.

Who’s deciding which nominations will be winning Hidden Gems?

The 12 Hidden Gems will be selected by a panel of judges who will review how many times a gem has been nominated. They will also take into consideration why the gem has been nominated by those people putting it forward as a Hidden Gem.

What happens to the final 12 Hidden Gems?

The twelve Hidden Gems will feature in the official Year of Culture 2019 calendar! They will also be featured on social media during the Year of Culture and the subject of a focus piece by the West Sussex County Times next year.

If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact the team using [email protected]. You can stay up to date with everything to do with the Year of Culture by liking our Facebook page and by following us on Instagram and Twitter as @HDCulture2019.
